What are the other benefits of being a member?

From our level one club to our all access Passport Plus club, there are so many great benefits in joining! In addition to having the flexibility of tanning at any one of our locations, you will also receive exclusive offers on products, upgrades and more; not to mention the low monthly costs that make joining our club the most affordable way to maintain your tan.

Can I use my membership at other Australian Tan locations?

Yes! Our memberships provide you with full access to tan at any of our locations. This makes finding a location convenient to you that much easier!

How long can I freeze my membership?

You may freeze your membership up to 6 months at a time.

What are the hours of each location?

All salons are open Monday-Friday 9am-9pm, Saturdays 9am-6pm and Sundays 10am-5pm. Our Morgan Hill locations opens at 8am on weekdays.

Where can I find Australian Tan's current specials?

There are many ways you can save at Australian Tan. You can find specials on our specials page (click here), our Facebook fan page (click here), or we highly recommend joining our Australian Tan E-Club. Do I have to make an appointment?

All of our salons are on a walk in only basis with the exception of our Airbrush, which we recommend you make an appointment for at our Blossom Hill location.

When can I freeze my membership?

You can freeze your membership at any time, as long as you are not in a minimum term. It is only $5 a month plus taxes, and once you reactivate your membership, all your $5 payments go back on to your account to use towards any in store purchases like lotion, upgrades etc.

The Tanning Consultants at your preferred Australian Tan location are always ready to assist you with any questions, concerns and feedback you have. Can you share or transfer memberships?

Memberships cannot be share or transferred at any time.

Do you share my email address with anyone?

Our Australian Tan team strives to protect your membership and important details attached. Emails addresses are not shared with any outside company. At Australian Tan we are always excited and anxious to update you on any specials, promos, or problems with your membership. When providing your email, not only is it kept safe, but it allows us to keep in contact with you on a monthly basis!

Can I cancel or freeze my membership at any time?

A customer has the flexibility to make changes to their membership at any time, as long as they send in a change of status form before or by the given deadline (see next FAQ).

Can I cancel my membership over the phone or online?

Cancellations can only be made by filling out a change of status form and mailing it to our corporate offices. Forms must be received on or before the 14th day of the month. You will then receive an email confirming the changes that have been requested. Forms may be picked up at any Australian Tan location or printed out online below!

How can I change my billing information?

Any necessary changes to billing information must be done in stores. Since we require you to be present and sign an information update form, we cannot make any changes over the phone.

Why is there an additional 10% added to my tanning service?

As of July 1, 2010, the federal government added a mandated 10% tax on all UV-tanning services. We are required to charge this tax, and encourage you to contact your elected officials with any comments.

Can I tan while pregnant?

We recommend you consult your physician first prior to using UV tanning services. A very popular alternative is our Spray Booth!

Can I tan while on medication?

If you’re taking medication, it is recommended that you consult with your physician prior using a tanning bed.

How long will it take to see results?

Depending on your skin type, your results may vary from 2-5 sessions. After achieving a base tan, one or two sessions a week will maintain your tan year round.

Can I shower right away after tanning?

Absolutely! Tanning is a process that can take up to 24 hours to develop. You cannot “wash” away your tan, unless you are using a self tanner, shaving right away, or exfoliating.

Is tanning in a UV bed worse for your skin than going out into the sun?

No. When tanning in one of our UV beds, you are in a controlled environment, meaning you know exactly what percentage of UV light you are getting. For example our Instant or level 5 bed has less than 1% of UVB, versus the sun which has 12-15% of UVB on any given day (UVB is the burning ray). You only need a small amount of UVB to produce a tan; however all of our beds have less UVB than the sun, resulting in a gentler way to produce a tan for your skin!

How often can I tan?

You are welcome to tan once a day in a UV bed, but spray tanning has no limitations. If you want to maximize your color, we recommend “double-dipping”; or in other words, using a UV bed and Spray Booth back to back in the same day!

Do I really need to wear goggles or can I just close my eyes?

It is federal law that you wear goggles each and every time you tan. The skin on your eyelids are very thin and do not produce any melanin. If you close your eyes and place a towel over your face the UV rays can penetrate through, not giving you 100% protection.

Do all your locations have the same equipment?

When visiting any of our locations, you will find that we have all of our different level beds available. The amount of equipment may vary.

Why do I need to use a tanning lotion?

When tanning without lotion, the first 6 minutes of your tan will not be effective. This is because the light reflects off your skin rather than absorbing it. When tanning with lotion, you will see instant results to help you achieve your desired tan.

Why is this tanning lotion cheaper online?

The manufacturers of our lotions only sell to authorized tanning salons. They do not sell these lotions to online retailers. If a lotion that we provide is also available to purchase online, we cannot guarantee that lotion is safe. There are possibilities that they are filled with cheap fillers.

What's the difference between the tan extenders you sell vs. the moisturizer I have at home?

Tan extenders are specifically designed for a tanner’s skin and help your tan last up to 50% longer. The moisturizers that you can purchase at the store have mineral oils which strip your tan! Tan extenders help extend the life of your tan.

What's the difference between the lotion sold at Australian Tan and the ones I can buy at a store?

Our lotions that we carry are specifically designed for the UV light that is in the bed. They increase your tan by up to 70% and add Vitamins and Minerals to your skin while you tan.

How old do you have to be to tan?

It is California Law that you are at least 18 years old to tan in UV beds; however there is no minimum age to tan in our Spray Booth.

How do I acheive the best results?

Before you come in for your spray session, be sure to shower, shave and exfoliate for best results! Avoid putting on any lotions, deodorants or perfumes prior to your session as they can interfere with the bronzer. After your session, avoid any beauty routines such as getting your nails done or waxing, etc. until after your spray tan has fully developed and you have showered!

How often should I spray tan?

Our manufacture recommends that you spray once every 5 to 7 days to allow your skin and pores to breath. We also recommend fully exfoliating between spray sessions!

Just like UV tanning lotions, are there lotions available for the spray that will enhance my color as well?

We’re happy you asked! We have products specifically designed for spray tanning to prolong the life of your tan, enhance your color and speed up your processing time! If you also like to UV tan AND spray tan in the same day, we have a lotion that is made for back to back use.

Does the spray booth make you look orange or streaky?

At Australian Tan, we feature the VersaSpa Spray Booth to help you achieve a seamless instant tan! VersaSpa uses a light mist that covers your whole body that will not leave you soaking wet or cause the solution to streak. There are 3 different levels that you can choose from to help you get the perfect color each and every time. We also have VersaSpa products available for you to purchase to add that extra glow and perfection to your tan!

What does the Red Light Therapy bed do for my skin?

The Red Light Therapy bed does a number of things for your skin! The main objective of Red Light Therapy is collagen production, which reduces wrinkles and fine lines in your skin. It also evens out your skin tone and complexion for a natural glow. Red Light Therapy also improves acne-prone skin and keeps skin refreshed and renewed!

Are there any UV rays in the Red Light Therapy bed?

Great question! There are not. The bed itself may get slightly warm, but there are no UV rays being emitted from the bulbs. We do although recommend having all clients wear goggles in the Red Light Therapy bed since the bulbs are VERY bright! We wouldn’t want there to be any strain put on user’s eyes.

Is there anything I have to do prior to my Red Light treatment?

Wash your skin well to remove any excess oils and irritants, then apply the prep-spray to enhance your collagen and elastin production during your session.

How often should I use the Red Light bed?

We suggest using the Red Light bed 3-5 times per week until you achieve your desired results, followed by 1-2 times weekly for maintenance. First time users should start their time off at 12-15 minutes and gradually increase their time to a max time of 20 minutes.

Are there products to use in conjunction with Red Light Therapy?

We have a line of Red Light Therapy “Collagenetics” products to use with your Red Light sessions. We have a Prep Spray, Post Therapy Serum and Post-Therapy Lotion to ensure you are maximizing your light absorption and collagen production. Visit any of our salons to try out the Collagenetics line!

What usage of the Cocoon Wellness Pod will give me the best results?

For the best results, use the Cocoon 2-3 times per week for the first 4 weeks followed by 1-2 sessions per week thereafter!

I am sometimes sensitive to heat, will I still be okay to use the Cocoon?

Of course! The three levels of near, mid and far-infrared lighting work to deliver a dry heat treatment that can be set from ambient to 180-degrees Fahrenheit! Once in the Cocoon, you can choose between the settings to find which level works best for your comfort.

What can I expect from one full session in the Cocoon?

20 minutes of high heat burns up to 200 calories and the loss of up to 1.5lbs of water weight! After your session you will leave feeling more relaxed and your muscle stiffness & bloating will be relived.
